[You know, that he's the big not-so-bad wolf that comes to get poetry read to him.]

Well, I guess I've never wanted much, either. Maybe a new whip - the Morningstar is a bit excessive for -- everyday work.

[But he's absolutely been carrying it again since Sinbad's party.]

Over dinner, I was thinking. I feel a bit bad, but it sort of... got away from me.

[There's a pause of consideration, and he gently scratches the back of Trevor's head.]

Why, precisely, do you need a whip for your work?

[he's sort of noticed]

[Trevor leans back against the touch, although he stills just a little when Alucard asks him what it is he needs the whip for.

Fuck.]

Just wanted to have a little extra insurance, that's all.

And the real answer is?

I had a small incident with someone that reminded me I ought to be as prepared here as I am at home to deal with pretty much anything.

And what exactly is a small incident when I saw you and Rip nearly fight each other but you haven't felt the need to protect yourself from that?

Please, just tell me. You know I won't leave it be until you say.

[Look, he doesn't feel like he needs to protect himself from Rip because the vampire was obviously terrified of Alucard, or respected him. Or something.

But this...]

When I was still ... sorting through my feelings about vampires, you know I wasn't the most diplomatic about it. Apparently someone took exception to that.

[reposing]

I'm aware. Kuro mentioned a bit how you two met, but he didn't seem to hold it against you.

[There's a pause, then he frowns.] So. Who was annoyed with you? What was said?

Neither of them seemed to.

Their friend, however, felt the need to make his opinion clear by way of a threat.

[He really didn't want to admit to this.]

[reposing]

[Alucard is ... well, he's certainly angry, but he knows that Trevor can defend himself.

Still. Trevor-- Trevor is his, so.]

Who threatened you?

[stoneup]

See, this is why I didn't want to mention anything.

[Because it was probably just some kid being stupid, for all he knows.

He frowns, dropping his chin to Alucard's shoulder. It's a slightly sulky movement.]

It doesn't matter.

[reposing]

Why? Because I'd be livid if someone threatened your life? Can you possibly blame me?

[He makes a small, frustrated sound, but decides to just pull Trevor into his lap so he can hold him. And maybe put a little.]

[stoneup]

No, because I didn't want to cause you anymore hardship than you'd already been through lately.

[He doesn't resist being pulled into the dhampir's lap, though, nuzzling his face into Alucard's neck.]

[reposing]

[Oh. Alucard blinks slowly, then carefully takes both of Trevor's hands, squeezing.]

Trevor, just because I've been processing my losses doesn't make your troubles less to me. I would honestly prefer to focus on you than... that.

I won't force you to speak further, but I would do anything to protect you. More than that, whatever you asked of me.

...Even if it means staying out of it.

[stoneup]

[Trevor sighs quietly, shifting to press a kiss to their twined fingers.]

I just don't want you to worry about it. If I thought it was a serious death threat, that would be another thing...

[Whoops did he leave out the 'death' part before]

[reposing]

...I believe you failed to mention it was a death threat, particularly.

[stoneup]

Trevor doesn't think he can even distract Alucard out of this one.]

Must've slipped my mind.

So someone decided to threaten to kill you because of the two vampires you bothered even though you settled matters with said vampires.

And you're carrying your whip, just in case said person attacks you.

What should my reaction be, Trevor?

[stoneup]

[He sighs.]

-- I don't know.

[Truthfully, he really hasn't wanted to make a big deal out of it because it means admitting that it happened.]

[reposing]

[A slow sigh escapes him and he raises their hands, kissing Trevor's fingers.]

I know you can protect yourself. And I know you made amends where you had to. For that, I am very proud of you, Trevor. I know overcoming things you have grown up with and were taught are difficult to achieve, but you have regardless.

You shouldn't be punished for that. I will worry regardless, but I will not pressure you to tell me who spoke to you in such a way.

[stoneup]

[Once Alucard kisses his fingers, he drops his head onto the dhampir's shoulder again.

He hates feeling like he even needs to carry the whip like some damned security blanket, because he should be able to just tell that the kid is harmless.

Except that in this place, people just -- aren't what they seem, and what if he isn't?

He frowns.]

I don't even know the guy. Never seen him in my life until the other night at Sinbad's party.

[reposing]

Will you tell me what he looks like?

[One hand keeps holding onto Trevor's, his other going to his back, lightly tracing there.]

I need you to promise you're not going to do anything with what I tell you.
